Motorcycle riders join Makueni’s drive for safer maternal care
A partnership in Wote prepares bodaboda representatives to support timely access to maternity services.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. joined Professor Ann Kihara of Women Engaged in Development to launch a programme recognising motorcycle taxi operators’ role in access to maternal care.
At the Mother and Child Hospital in Wote, bodaboda representatives trained to pass knowledge about maternal, newborn and adolescent health to other riders. The programme responds to the importance of motorcycles as transport for women in rural communities, including during emergencies.
Mutula called on rider leaders to involve their members in the initiative. The partners set goals for safer transfers and reduced preventable deaths over two years.
